Man apprehended after hit-and-run incident, flees scene

A recent incident involving a hit-and-run collision led to the arrest of 35-year-old Geraldson S. Begay, resulting in a series of charges following his attempt to leave the scene of the accident.

On December 15, Maricopa police responded to reports of a Ford Fusion crashed at the intersection of North White and Parker, as well as West Honeycutt roads, around 7:45 p.m. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered the abandoned vehicle and were informed by a witness that the driver, later identified as Begay, had been operating the vehicle eastbound on Honeycutt. Reportedly, Begay disregarded the intersection, colliding with a guardrail before abandoning the wrecked car.

Evidence discovered within the vehicle, including Begay’s wallet with identification and personal belongings bearing his name, pointed to his involvement. Additionally, authorities found both a closed and an open, partially consumed can of White Claw Hard Seltzer within the car.

Despite Begay’s absence and the absence of the vehicle’s keys, subsequent investigations revealed Begay’s driving privileges were criminally suspended, compounding the severity of the situation.

Two days later, at approximately 3 a.m. on December 17, a report emerged of a man, suspected to be Begay, walking along Honeycutt Road and North Rancho Mirage Boulevard. The caller indicated the individual appeared intoxicated, prompting police response. Upon contact, Begay claimed he was walking home following a disagreement with family members and was found in possession of a Ford key.

Subsequently, Begay was taken into custody and booked into Pinal County jail on multiple charges, including a felony count of illegal dumping and five misdemeanor counts related to leaving the scene of an accident, driving with criminal suspension, possessing an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and causing criminal damage.

As legal proceedings progress, Begay faces a potential sentence of over three years in prison, highlighting the gravity of the charges against him stemming from the hit-and-run incident and subsequent attempt to evade responsibility. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding case.
