18-Year Sentence for Driver in 2022 Fatal Crash
In a Pinal County Superior Court hearing, a 25-year-old individual was handed an 18-year prison sentence for his involvement in a rollover crash that resulted in the death of a Maricopa woman last year.
Christian Galindo, who was arrested by state police in February 2022 following a single-vehicle collision, faced legal action after the accident claimed the life of 19-year-old Vanity Chavez, one of his passengers. Additionally, another female passenger sustained injuries in the incident.
The tragic crash occurred on State Route 347, where Chavez was tragically ejected from the vehicle due to the high speed at which it was traveling. She succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Chandler.
As part of a plea agreement, Galindo admitted guilt to charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault, as indicated in a statement released on December 20 by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.
Initially, Galindo faced a range of charges, including homicide, multiple counts related to driving under the influence (DUI) – such as extreme DUI and aggravated DUI – along with driving with a suspended license.
Upon the completion of his 18-year prison term, Galindo, who will be 43 years old by then, is mandated to serve a five-year probationary period. The sentencing took place on November 21.
