Sergio Perez is heading into another Mammoth Prix with Red Bull after a poor result in Austria.

Beaten by a Haas F1, the Mexican has attracted opinions and his bosses, Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, have urged him to quickly raise his level of play.

Before the start of testing at Silverstone, however, Perez justifies himself.

“It was a pretty tough weekend overall, especially the road, with the damage we had since the first lap, really. Basically, we were off the road with that. There was nothing probably with such a small gap between the cars. The damage was just a bit too much and we were falling back in the order.”

“It’s already forgotten, my performance was explained like this on the road. On paper, the fast corners of Silverstone should suit the RB20. This weekend should be very strong for us.”

“We’re looking forward to this kind of high-speed track and Silverstone is always a huge challenge, you know, with the wind. It can be particularly difficult. So yeah, it’s going to be very tight again, as it has been the last few weekends at different circuits. So I don’t expect anything different. But the car should be more comfortable here and so should I.”

This week, the Red Bull Powertrains facilities were presented to the media. For Red Bull’s engine department for 2026, this is a big challenge. What is his assessment of the program so far? Does he see a competitive engine as early as 2026, even against manufacturers with decades of experience?

“Well, it’s quite impressive to see how far, timing-wise, they’ve managed to get everything together to get into these engine regulations. And when you’re on site and you’re doing the tour, it’s quite impressive to see the number of people we have on site right now. And how far along they are already with the engine, looking for performance. So, I think timing-wise, I think it’s all coming together very well.”

“Now for the competitiveness… No driver or even engine manufacturer has any idea how competitive each of them will be in 2026. But I have to say they have done a mettlesome job so far.”
