This morning, rumors emerged of a return of Sepang to the F1 calendar for the 2026 season. According to this information relayed by the very serious press agency Reuters, the Malaysian oil company Petronas was working behind the scenes on this return.

We know that Petronas is committed to Formula 1 for the long term with Mercedes, and that the two entities will certainly still be linked after 2026. We also know that Petronas was the main sponsor of the event when it was on the calendar.

But ultimately, it seems that this data is incorrect and that the sources in question did not receive the correct information. Precisely, if there are discussions for a GP in Sepang, they do not involve Petronas, which has denied these rumors.

“Petronas refers to information published on January 31, 2024 about the potential return of the Formula 1 Huge Prix to Sepang, Malaysia in 2026. We would like to confirm that there has been no dialogue on the return of this sport on the PETRONAS Sepang worldwide circuit” can we read in a brief press release.
