Maui County stated in an announcement that Carter, from nearby Haiku, became taken from the water by jet ski after 11 a.m. and given lifesaving measures by first responders except paramedics arrived to grab him to the Maui Memorial Clinical Center. He later died within the health center.
“The preliminary investigation unearths no indicators of injurious play,” the county stated.
An eyewitness told NBC News that the massive shark became as immense as a pickup truck and pulled the surfer into the water.
“The shark proper started biting him and pulling him down,” he stated. “The dorsal fin became almost as immense as his [Carter’s] physique, the stop of it became almost as high as his head sitting on the board. It became grand to hear him screaming.”
